WHY?
DAVE BRYAN - SR. PASTOR

‘Why?’ It’s a great question, isn’t it? Especially when we are talking about important, vital things. It’s important to wear our seatbelt while riding in a car. Yet, if we know why it’s important to wear a seatbelt, that a restraint might keep us from serious injury in the event of an accident, we can also understand why it’s important for children to be buckled into a car seat for the same reason. ‘Why’ allows us take the fact and apply it in a broader way to other aspects of our lives.
So, here’s the question for Sunday. Why the Cross? I mean, after all, we spend a great deal of time talking about it. We have a representation of one above our baptistry. It’s image appears on our Bibles, our jewelry, even our apparel. Obviously, the Cross is important to us. And rereading that last sentence, I cringe. The Cross is not simply important. It is vital. It is critical. It is essential! And Sunday, we ask ‘why?’
Sunday morning, as we begin to address that all important question, we will share in the ordinance we call the Lord’s Supper or Communion. We shall remember the act, the selfless act of sacrifice our Lord performed on the Cross. We will remember the grace we received. We will remember the hope we now have. We will remember the Cross.
Sunday night, we shall seek to answer the question. In our fourth session of Mission Essentials, we shall see what the Word of God says about why the Cross is so critical to our faith. No other belief system or philosophy offers a Savior like Jesus. Sunday night we will find out why!
Looking forward to our day, folks.
It is a joy to be your pastor!
