a journey and a choice

PUP ROGERS

In 1 Kings 18, we see this verse:

21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, "How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is god, follow him.

Elijah was talking to the nation of Israel, but this passage has meaning for us today. What are the things that hold us back from seeing God move wholeheartedly? We follow Christ for a moment, then in the next moment we are pursuing our own will and interests.

The crazy thing is that we want to say we are entirely devoted, yet we still struggle daily. I think that’s where I'm at sometimes in my life. I want to follow, but I do it in a way where I still struggle.

I want to believe that my journey is a continual process of growing closer to God; a journey where I am running hard. That journey has had its ups and downs. To say we are limping would be a statement that we all can make.

Elijah said stop and choose. This is a daily, sometimes hourly, decision that we have to learn to make.

So please be encouraged if you are limping, but know that pursuing God is a journey that’s worth taking.
