God’s Creation - Rob Flaherty - Co-Interim Student Minister
This is such a great time of year! Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and yes, hunting season! Hunting is much more than the challenge, pursuit, or harvest. Have you ever caught yourself in a daze of astonishment as you watch the sunrise while hunting? Or feel overwhelmed at all the sounds, smells, or first light which shines off a field or water? I have! It reminds me what a great God we have and how blessed we are to see Him in nature!
God’s creation is simply amazing. It is hard to understand how so many organisms work together in harmony. For myself, it’s hard to understand how waterfowl migrate hundreds of miles in the right direction especially at night. Some birds migrate nonstop thousands of miles just to get to their wintering grounds. This stuff doesn’t happen by chance!
Through general revelation He shows us proof of His existence. Paul writes in Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” The proof of His existence is very clear in the Word, but we should not miss some of the best gifts before us.
As we go through the holiday seasons I challenge you to slow down and take in all He has to show us. I challenge you to take time to see God through nature and reflect on who He is. Psalm 19:1 says, “the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Look up at the sky and see what changes. Look into the field and see what it produces. Look into in the mirror and see His best creation, which is you!
My prayer is that we slow down to see His creation, pursue the lost, and that we truly have a blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas season!
Blessings!
Rob
