ring in the new: rusty stowe
This is the time of the year that many people try to make things "NEW", new attitudes, new thought, new schedules and new resolutions. So how's it going for you? I am one that does not do that because i do a lousy job of keeping those "resolutions." Webster defines "resolution" as a firm decision, a strong commitment to a course of action. Some people, like me, have given up resolutions taking the same attitude as Calvin, of the old cartoon Calvin and Hobbs. Calvin said, "God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now, I am so far behind I will never die!"
We can use this time right now to do as the disciples did when they were faced with a new day in their lives. Their Master had died, their hopes were crushed but they did what Jesus instructed them to do - they got together in an upper room and prayed. In Acts 2, on the day of Pentecost, they were all together in one place and they were visited by the Holy Spirit. This is a great time to find time for God and build that personal relationship that we all need with Jesus. We also need to stay active or become active in our times of personal Bible Study and Worship. Choose this year to begin tithing on a regular basis.
When we "resolve" to make this year a new year for Christ, we are on the right path for seeing a great year at CHBC.
Some of us are old enough to remember singing the hymn that says:
"I am resolved and who will go with me?
Come friends without delay, Taught by the Bible
Led by the Spirit, we'll walk the Heavenly Way."
Looking forward to serving you in this new year!
