Thanksgiving

by Robin Roady - Children's Ministry Coordinator

“Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:3-5

We are about to celebrate one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving. The colorful leaves, the cooler air, and of course the gathering of family when we can enjoy lots of yummy food. I love a warm slice of pecan pie!

According to the Webster’s dictionary, the definition of thanksgiving is “the expression of gratitude, especially to God”. I am thankful for my family, my church family, my friends, good health, and of course my relationship with Jesus. What are you thankful for? Parents, are you being intentional on teaching your kids to be mindful of all God is doing around them? One tradition I really like is taking a mason jar and each night, or maybe once a week, each member of the family writing down what they are thankful for and putting that slip of paper in the gratitude jar. At the end of the year, they open the jar together and are reminded of all the ways God has blessed them throughout the year. God is so good to us! He graciously gives us more than what we ever deserve. As it says in His Word, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17

What are you thankful for this year? Might I suggest you sit down and write out all God has done for you this year from the smallest of things to the greatest of blessings in your life? Give God ALL the praise, honor and glory for those things. I bet you will be surprised of all the work God has done in your life over the past year.

Brad, Marlo, Moriah and I are so grateful to each one of you and the love and support you have shown us over the past 15 months as I have served as your children’s coordinator. Your encouragement and prayers mean so much to us. It has been a joy and certainly a blessing to work with our Chisholm Kids. All glory goes to God for the work He is doing in our children’s ministry. We are looking forward to many more years serving Christ together!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Robin
