WAITING

DAVE BRYAN

Standing in line on Election Day. Waiting to participate in this great thing we call the United States of America. As I patiently wait on this Tuesday morning to take up my civic responsibility, I type out my newsletter article on my phone to the loving people of Chisholm Heights. Yeah, going to count this as a good day.

You know, despite all the conveniences and services we enjoy, despite the speed of communication in this digital age, and even despite best efforts of those who vie for our business or attention, we still spend a good part of our time . . . waiting. It can be frustrating and difficult. It can be simple and relatively easy. But in the end, the question we all ask, ‘Was it worth it?’

Regardless of any other thing that might occupy our ‘wait time,’ there is One who we wait upon, who promises more than we can imagine once our wait is over. Consider these encouraging verses from the Word of God:

Psalms 25:5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.

Isaiah 40:31 Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

Romans 8:25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;

Yes, we wait. We wait for God to hear our prayer and minister to us today. We wait for Him to work in the hearts and lives of those around us. And, most importantly, we wait for His return. He is coming back! We don’t know when, but we know He will. The words to an old, cherished song comes to mind as we consider our time of waiting.

Until Then

But until then my heart will go on singing,

Until then with joy I'll carry on,

Until the day my eyes behold the city,

Until the day God calls me home.

Dear friends, wait patiently. Wait gladly. Wait expectantly. And when the Day comes, we will join in mighty chorus to proclaim, ‘Yes, it was worth the wait!’

It’s a joy to be your pastor!

Bro. Dave
