We Love Rules, Don't we?
by Jeff Kimes - Executive Pastor

Rules are a good thing, if you are a rule follower. To some people rules are just a suggestion and you can choose to follow them or not. Those people can end up in some interesting situations.
Most of the time rules are in place for your protection, or the protection of others, and to help you live a better life. I remember as a child, I had rules I needed to follow in order to live a more enjoyable life, and if I disobeyed those rules my life was not so enjoyable.
In Colossians chapter 3 the apostle Paul lets us know that there are rules for holy living:
Col. 3:1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
If a believer wants to live a Holy Life they need to be focused on Christ. Our eyes should be fixed on Him as our standard and our example. When we start looking at the world around us that is when we get entangled in things that just want to drag us down.
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Paul goes on to remind us that our old life has died and our new life is in Christ. So we are to put to death the old things that belonged to our earthly nature.
It is impossible to live a holy life still holding onto the things of the world. Fix your eyes on our Savior Jesus Christ and he will lead you to that holy life that you seek.
God Bless,
