Growth

by Chris Watkins - Student Minister

Colossians 1:9-14 For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light. He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

This passage is sharing the desire Paul has for the church in Colossae to have spiritual growth. We (the student ministry) just returned from Super Summer and still have two Falls Creek opportunities ahead of us this summer. I wanted to share with you the things I am praying for this summer as the overseer of the student ministry. I would ask that you would join me as we desire to see spiritual growth in our student ministry and church. My prayer and hope is to see our students grow spiritually this summer before we return to the busy school year. I pray we can establish routines in our spiritual life that will carry into our everyday hustle and bustle this fall. I pray that those that attended Super Summer will step up as Kingdom leaders and help lead other students in our church and community. I pray there will be a desire in our students to grow closer to Christ and prayerfully be bold to share the gospel on a regular basis. I pray that as we attend Falls Creek we would not simply attend, but be active participants in everything Falls Creek has to offer including the bible studies, quiet times, worship services, etc.

This prayer is not exclusive to our student ministry alone. I pray that we as a church will grow spiritually in the days ahead. That we will see a need to be diligent in our prayer life, lifting up others in our church (not just the sick but actually praying for all of our church family), praying for the Lord’s direction for our pastor search committee, asking God to give all of us the boldness to share the gospel in our community and to be living examples to those around us of what Christ has called us to do, which is Love God and Love Others.

Lord, may Chisholm Heights be known as a place for kids through adults as a place that loves you and a place that truly loves others. May you allow us to grow closer to you this summer and through the Holy Spirit have the boldness to share your truth with those around us in our community. Lord allow Chisholm Heights to be a light seen far and wide in our area as a result of the work you do in the heart and lives of our people.
