MY DAD WOULD HAVE BEEN 86...

DAVID BAKER - WORSHIP MINISTER

June 2nd would have been my dad’s 86th birthday. Even though he’s been gone now for 9+ years, I still remember many of the lessons he taught me. One lesson concerning sports—"If you score more runs/points/goals than the other team/person, you’ll win the game.”

There’s been a plethora of other thoughts and comments over the years that I’m reminded of when various situations arise. Probably the most memorable comment he made to me over the years was in regards to me stepping up on stage or in the spot light doing whatever, and he made this comment to me (and to my children) often!

“Whatever you do, don’t embarrass me!” It would be followed by a big grin where we would be assured that no matter what we did, we could never embarrass him!

There have been a number of folks who have commented that they see a lot of my dad in me. To be honest, I see it, too. And I’ve grown to view it as a badge of honor. I pray that they also see my Heavenly Father in me as well.

Proverbs 23:24 – “The father of a godly child has cause for joy.”

This Sunday, June 6th, our SMASH Choir will be presenting their special musical, “Unselfie – Selfless in a Selfie World” I hope you’ll make it a point to be here to support them and to hear the message in this wonderful little work!

Because He lives!

- David
