The Fruit of the Spirit

by Robin Roady - Children's Ministry Coordinator

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Galatians 5:22-25

Chisholm Kids have a fun song we sing to learn the Fruits of the Spirit. It comes with fun hand motions and even some hilarious squeaky voice tones. It starts out with this:

“The fruit of the Spirit’s not a banana. The fruit of the Spirit’s not a banana. If you want to be a banana you might as well hear it: You can’t be a fruit of the Spirit; Cause the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

It’s a super fun, and highly energetic song, but a great way to teach kids about the Fruits of the Spirit.

Paul writes about nine specific attributes that result from the work of the Holy Spirit in

a Christians life. Every Christian should be exhibiting these behaviors on a daily basis. How do we grow our fruits? A few ways we can do this is by spending time regularly in God’s word and prayer, being obedient to the Holy Spirits leading and by using our

spiritual gifts.

The new year is always a great time to refocus on how we are growing our spiritual fruits. Maybe you need to dust off your Bible and start digging into God’s Word on a regular basis. Maybe you need to join a Bible Study (we have several going on at CHBC on Wed nights). What about regular church attendance? We’d love to see you on Sunday! What about praying where God could use you and your spiritual gifts in 2024 at Chisholm Heights Baptist Church? We have a wonderful music ministry who could use more choir members, an active senior adult ministry who is always excited to welcome new friends into their circle (trust me, they have so much fun together). Our student ministry could always use more volunteers and certainly our Children’s ministry needs more Sunday school teachers. These are just a few areas where you could serve. If the Holy Spirit leads you to serve in another area, please come talk to a staff member about that calling. We will rejoice with you!

The Fruits of the Spirit allow us to represent Christ living in us. When we make the choice to live out our lives with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control we are allowing Christ to shine through every aspect of our lives. What a great way to show God’s love through our words and actions.

Let’s use our fruits to bring God glory and let’s serve Him together in 2024!

Robin
